What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis,
treatment and prevention of disorders of the neuro-musculoskeletal
system and the effects these disorders have on the nervous system and
total health. Since much of the body’s innate recuperative power is
channeled through the nervous system, the Doctor of Chiropractic
ensures that the muscular and neuro-muscular skeletal system is
functioning properly for maximum performance. Fundamental to
chiropractic care is the belief that "good health" is defined, not
merely by the absence of disease or illness, rather it is achieved when
the patient has a complete physical, mental and social well being.
Chiropractic care is an important piece to the total wellness puzzle.
Is there a growing public acceptance of chiropractic care?
The
public is becoming more knowledgeable about total wellness and
non-invasive healthcare options available to them. Patients are looking
for natural solutions to alleviate their ailments and also help with
lifestyle and systemic conditions that can bring reoccurring discomfort
or sickness. To demonstrate the acceptance of chiropractors into the
mainstream of health care, there has been growth in the number of
chiropractic practices and the demand for effective treatments.
Who can benefit from chiropractic care?
A
diverse group of patients find relief and treatment from non-invasive
chiropractic care. Pediatric, adult, athletic, and geriatric patients
can benefit from the treatments, with the most common focused on the
acute and chronic low-back and neck conditions. In addition, persons
suffering from headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia and
infantile colic among other conditions have found chiropractic
treatment effective for these ailments. Each year, new studies are
being conducted to document that chiropractic treatments are effective
for a multitude of conditions. In addition, the Doctor of Chiropractic
will recommend preventative exercise regimes and educate the patient on
matters such as posture, ergonomics, diet, health and lifestyle,
important factors for good health.
What are the credentials required of the Doctor of Chiropractic?
Doctors
of Chiropractic complete the equivalent of five academic years of
advanced professional education. They must also complete the extensive
clinical experiences prior to taking the certification exams that are
required by state and national licensing boards. The rigors of the
educational experience produce doctors that are highly regarded members
of the health care team.
